Hi! My name is Francis, I am thirteen years old and of Filipino heritage. I just started eighth grade at a parochial school in Rockaway, New Jersey. I was born on January 24, 1991 in Queens, New York. Both my parents came to the United States from Manila when they were very young. My younger sister Nikki and I were born here.  From our parents, we learned the value of hard work and the importance of a good education. I study a lot because I want to be a good student in school. My favorite subjects are Science and Social Studies. I also like art very much, it makes me happy when I have created something that people enjoy. I don't play any competitive or organized sports, but I like to play hockey and basketball with my friends and go to their games to cheer them on when I get a chance. Another favorite activity of mine is listening to music. I enjoy a wide range of music, but my favorite genre is rock.

    My participation at the World Leadership Forum increased my desire and enthusiasm to experience new things and "venture into the world..." It was the first time I was on my own and responsible for myself and my actions. It was hard to wake up on my own in the beginning (without my mom having to nag me!), but I got used to it.  I made new friends who live in different parts of the country and I truly gained understanding that we may look different but inside, our goals and our likes are quite similar.
